Overview

Expropriation Law

Expropriation is the legal term referring to the removal of property by the state in return for compensation. Expropriation for transportation, military and other reasons associated with the functions of the state must be based on an overriding purpose serving the common good. As in democracies with market economy-based constitutions property ownership counts as a constitutional right, expropriations are only possible here in certain legally regulated exceptional situations.
