Marco Vedovatti is Co-head of our Practice Group Arbitration. He is has been practicing law in Switzerland (admission to the Geneva Bar in 2010) and in Spain (admission to the Spanish Bar in  2014). He regularly advices clients from Spanish-speaking jurisidictions or doing business in Spain or LATAM. 

 

His practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and related court proceedings. Marco has represented clients in several industries (e.g., construction, engineerings, distribution, defence, energy, media rights, joint ventures, aviation) and jurisdictions (among others, Switzerland, Spain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Turkey). He also sits as arbitrator. 

 

A former member of the Swiss Swimming National Team and passionate about sport, Marco also practices international sports arbitration.  He represents clients before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the dispute resolution bodies of national and international sports federations in disciplinary, eligibility and contractual matters. He is also a member of the International Panel of Sport Resolutions in the UK. 

 

Marco regularly publishes and lectures in international arbitration in post-graduate programs in Spain and LATAM.

  • Counsel to a Spanish engineering company in an ICC arbitration in a dispute arising out of the delivery of a rolling mill against a state-owned Algerian company (seat in Paris and contract governed by Algerian law) Legal advice included asisstance in related proceedings before French and Spanish state courts
  • Counsel to a media company before the Swiss Arbitration Centre in a dispute arising out of the contract on TV rights for a major sporing event (seat in Zurich and contract governed by Swiss law)
  • Counsel to a Spanish engineering company in an ICC arbitration in a dispute arising out of the delivery of a rolling mill in Morocco (seat in Geneva and contract governed by Swiss law). Legal advice included assistance in related proceedings before Swiss and Moroccan state courts
  • Counsel to a Spanish engineering company in an arbitration before the OHADA Common Court of Justice and Arbitration in a dispute arising out of the revamping of a plower plan (seat in Dakar and contract governed by Senegalese law)
  • Counsel to a Spanish construction company in an ICC arbitration in a dispute arising out of the construction of a major insfraestructure project in Bulgaria (seat in Paris and contract governed by Bulgarian law, Red and Yellow FIDIC). Legal advice included representation before a Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB)
  • Counsel to a South-american intermediary in an ICC arbitration in a dispute arising out of a contract in the defense sector (seat in Madrid and contract governed by Spanish law)
  • Pre-litigation advice in relation to a major infraestructure project in Central Asia (contract governed by the law of a CIS country)
  • Pre-litigation advise in relation to the construction of a nuclear plant in South-America (contract governed by Swiss law).
  • Pre-litigation advice in relation to a partnership agreement regarding a major contruction project in South America (contract governed by Swiss law)
  • Counsel in cross-border private anti-trust enforcement proceedings in Spain, UK and Italy.
  • Counsel to a national anti-doping agency in a complex and high-stakes dispute before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS)
  • Counsel to professional athletes in anti-doping proceedings before the Anti-Doping Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS ADD)
  • Counsel to an athlete before the ad hoc Divison of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for the Beijing Olympic Games 2022, regarding a provisional suspension in an anti-doping matter. The suspension was successfully lifted.
  • Counsel to a professional athlete in the setting-aside and revision proceedings of an award of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a complex anti-doping matter. The Swiss Supreme Cour upheld the motion for revision in a landmark decision. Legal assistance included representation in the remanded arbitration before the CAS.  
  • Representation of professional athletes in setting-aside proceedings before the Swiss Supreme Court against awards of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in anti-doping disputes
  • Counsel to agents and football clubs before FIFA adjudication bodies in disputes arising out of agency and employment contracts
  • Representation of a coach in disciplinary proceedings before the FEI Tribunal
